I love that my house is clean, the errands are done and Sundays are my time. Sundays are spent relaxing and getting ready for the busy week ahead.

Today, I spent my Sunday morning catching up on my web-shows, my Craft Channel and reading through all the blogs I follow. I am taking a class through Jessica Sprague called Mouse Paper Scissors Give - and I needed to get my projects completed. The first project in the class was a really cool subway art project. We got to create our own subway art using Photoshop - the class came with videos and step by step instruction. I had so much fun making my subway poster and I can see more projects using these techniques.

I love that I could personalize this with all the addresses that we have lived at, the names of the cities that we grew up in and our kids and pets' names.

I was also able to sneak out to do some Christmas shopping - for the Children's party next Saturday and for my family. The stores were crowded but I was able to find almost all the items on my list. Not bad for a spur-of-the-moment shopping trip.

I am all set for a busy work week ahead - meetings, reports due, a board dinner meeting, a trip to Toronto to shop for toys and a vacation day on Friday...ok, doesn't sound that tough really.

Happy Holidays and more tomorrow...

Dec 3 - 22 days until Christmas

Dec 3 - 22 days until Christmas

Saturdays tend to be the busiest day of our week. We have early morning shopping / errands and afternoons spent cleaning, tidying and finishing up home improvement projects. And every now and again, we get visitors!

Today, Mum, Geoff and Zena were coming for a visit. The main purpose of the visit was to introduce our pups to each other, so we might get them together at Christmas. Zena is a year old, playful, busy and has the sweetest personality. Bailey is an older girl, but has been lonely for a playmate since Bandit passed away. Bailey is shy, very timid around other dogs but not mean or aggressive.

The meeting went over pretty well. We started out with a group walk and Geoff was even able to walk the two girls together until Bailey wriggled out of her leash and headed for home. Zena loved the fenced in yard where she could run and Bailey was content to let her run alone. Once inside the house, the girls were ok, Bailey preferring to stick close to Don, Tori or I and Zena found the puppy toy box! She kept busy bringing out toys and we would decide if that particular toy was Zena-proof. Zena has very powerful jaws and was able to snap balls into pieces with one chomp! But it was nice to see the toys being played with - Bandit used to be the one to bring us toys - Bailey has a couple of favourites and the rest get ignored. When we brought out some ice cubes for a treat (yes...our girls enjoy an ice cube), Zena was able to power through them on one bite. Bailey opted for smaller bites, chipping away at her cube. Zena finished half a tray while Bailey nibbled at one cube!

I love visiting with my Mum and Geoff. My Mum and I can be in a room for the afternoon and never run out of conversation. I wish we lived closer to them so I could see her more often. Geoff is amazing with Tori and made more headway with her in 5 minutes that Don and I could make in a year. He has a way of getting straight to the heart of the matter, getting her attention and making her see reason. Today's discussion was about college and helping her zone in on what is important to her future. I know that there will be more discussions, but Geoff helped to spring board us past weeks of attitude.

Not much holiday stuff...I hung some lights on the front window...but tomorrow is another day.

Dec 2, 2011 - 23 days until Christmas

Dec 2, 2011 - 23 days until Christmas

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CgY3j7lT3d0/TtyhzaYxSNI/AAAAAAAAAH0/pp0NOJ2Aq9Q/s1600/Dec+5%252C+2011+248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; I am very fortunate to work at a company that does so much for their employees and helping out at the kids party may be extra work during the holidays, but so worth it! Just thinking of the kids' faces as they open their gifts propells me into the holiday spirit.

Today was planning on overdrive - the final numbers were due to our toy supplier, and a few last minute details needed to be finished. I am all set to pick up the toys on Dec 7 - all that remains is one last shopping trip for refreshments and we are good to go!

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-goRYhxl-QVI/TtyiFfcCl8I/AAAAAAAAAH8/VNk8-8GzrS4/s1600/Dec+5%252C+2011+247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; I had to find new places for some of my favourite decorations because we replaced our old entertainment unit for the fireplace unit last New Years. This meant giving up Christmas decoration real estate...so I am hanging a few less this year. I will probably continue to add as the holiday progresses, I can't leave well enough alone!

I transformed my bookcase to showcase those ornaments that I can't live without. I am still on the fence about a large tree...maybe closer to Christmas we will get one. But for now...our tiny house is fine with our little 4 foot tree in the corner.

Lots to look forward to tomorrow - some Christmas shopping and a visit from Mum, Geoff and Zena!

Countdown to Christmas 2011

Countdown to Christmas 2011 - Dec 1/11

In the past few weeks, I have received email reminders and blog updates from my favourite scrappy sites urging me to prepare for Christmas, get mini-books and journals ready to document the season. The holiday season will fly by in the blink of an eye and each year I vow that I will take a picture each day in December...and life gets in the way.

So...procrastination aside, I pledge to post each day documenting the joy of the season. I have so many blessings in my life and I want to make sure that I show gratitude for these blessings. In recent weeks, I have not felt the holiday spirit and not been as prepared for Christmas as I usually am by this time of the year. But today, December 1, the holiday spirit came flooding back!

I came into work thinking that today would be a regular Thursday for me, no meetings, lots of catch up to do. But I had a little holiday surprise waiting for me in my email - a reminder to send my holiday video from Santa. If you have not tried the Portable North Pole, I urge you to give it a try. You can find it here http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/home. I made a video for my brother, Brian and for my daughter, Tori and sent the link home so I can surprise others throughout the month. It put me in such a holiday mood. I even shared it with some of my colleagues, spreading the joy around!

The next surprise was waiting for me in our office lobby. These little lovelies - Mini Melt Away mints...love them. Don't worry, I was good - only indulged in a few - smuggled them back to my desk and took a couple minutes of reflection letting them melt on my tongue. (I know...food is not comfort...but they were so good!) They are from Hickory Farms and you can only get them at Christmas...so that must mean the season is upon us! Yummy!

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2V-d2_h7-VY/Ttisl31-5JI/AAAAAAAAAHs/4__UVlbjr5A/s1600/090160_v01-128x250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I love getting my hair done because I get to spend time with Dale and he is a master with hair! But more than that, he is such a great person and since I have been going to him for over 15 years, he know me and my crazy ways and our appointments are filled with laughter! He is very supportive, always offers great advise and calls me on my denial! Tonight it was my crazy "trailer park trash" dark roots...so I booked a follow up appt and will have beautiful holiday hair in no time.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Watching T and her sweetie in their relationship, noticing the changes that time has made on young love and remembering some of the things that remain unchanged as time marched on.

I think back to when I was 16, and I was totally and completely in love. I remember what it felt like, and the urgency that surrounded everything that had to do with being in that relationship. I know that things have not changed that much, that the feelings are similar, and that I did as T does, planned my day around being next to the object of my affection, the rest of the world be damned. So...as frustrating as it is for me as a parent, reminding her about homework, telling her to get off the phone, and supervising their time together, I really do understand what it is like to be in love.

Back in the day...in the late 80's for example...if you were "going" with someone...you hung out at the mall, or the community centre. Sometimes with your boyfriend...sometimes with your friends, watching him. (Stalking in its form today was not really a big deal back then!) Maybe if you were fortunate, like me, you would sneak your friends into the house when your parents weren't home. You made a mixed tape for your crush, and you spent hours on the phone talking to him, and talking to your friends about him.

Technology has made some drastic changes...the internet has certainly made having a relationship different. Today kids sign onto MSN or Facebook and cyber-chat - without hearing a voice. Words have been replaced by letters inticating words - laugh out loud is now LOL - and physical connection has been replaced by web-cam. T spends her time with her boyfriend via the net...on web-cam. It's truly bizarre to me...she was sitting on the couch beside me, with her computer in front of her. I thought she was chatting online and surfing the net...only to find that the web-cam was on. Her boyfriend could see and hear everything going on in our living room...kinds creepy in a Big Brother is watching kind of way!

They actually spend hours joined together via web-cam...which would be fine if that was the only way they were joined. But surprisingly enough, we still have to watch the kids when they are together, as teen-age pregnancy and STD's are still as real as back in my teen years. I trust my kids and know that they are smart and very aware of the dangers that face them. I have been upfront and honest about the challenges that I faced in my decision to have children young, and I know that they are armed with the facts. And when they look this happy together...who can come between that?

Mar 29 - April 4 - Happy Easter everyone!

Again...Wow...what a week! The best news...we are a family of 4 under on roof! With Alex home and Tori back...boy oh boy our little house is crammed with love. LOL! But with one extra diva, brings the juggling of bathroom schedules, checking of homework, and re-adjusting to the attitude that is all TORI! My husband is a saint...he accepted this new change with his easy-going Don-self, keeping the rest of us "freak-free' in the worst of situations.

I got some quality time with Dale at Fringe on Vine Street in St Catharines. The man is a wizard with hair and I am sporting a new colour...which I love. It's in the regular tones...just a bit more ginger that usual. Now I will blend in with my step-Ford family. LOL!

Easter brunch this year was at Betty's in Chippawa. What a great place to eat! Yummy buffet goodies and the best part was looking around the table at all the family. The kids have all grown up...we don't have anymore babies at the table. Where did the time go? Marisa is the youngest...and she is all grown up! Dad and Lynn were so generous to treat us all to such a great afternoon out. We had brunch, posed for some pics and then, in true-Cranford fashion...hit the outlet mall. It was really cool to have the guys head off toward the Sony store without a word between them...like Sony was calling them back to the mother ship! And us girls gravitated to the shoe stores. The most surprising part...Tania "Mexx'd" Don in an amazing make-over project...but my hubby's cheap-skatedness took over and he did not purchase any of the designer finds. But...I did copy the sizes in to my B-berry and will be using this to my advantage come Christmas, birthday, or sales, I expect to add some Mexx to his closet!

Here are some pics of the Cranford photo shoot...

This is the Ingraham clan...

A rare moment of sisterly-love

The set up of the group shot...technical difficulties...

The good group shot to follow next week...waiting for Brian to get it posted!

Have a great week!

Ness

Mar 22 - Mar 28

Wow! What a week! Easter party craziness is finally over! But before I get to the party and some cute pics...my week has been a whirlwind. I had a meeting in Stoney Creek for the Credit Institute - Hamilton chapter board...and got to see a behind the scenes look at how the Chapter is run. I was asked to serve as a board member and have accepted...so I am committed to a 2 year term. And I thought I was busy now!

Then on Thursday, my sweetie and I went to the Niagara Falls Grand Dinner Theatre to see Maggie's Getting Married - with my Finance colleagues. The dinner was good, the play was ok (the theatre is really much better in Milton) but I loved the company. Our table was hilarious and both Don and I really had a good time. This proves the point that it really does matter who you are with!

Finally...leading up to the Easter party craziness...Saturday 10-12 was insane! But I loved every minute of it. I have been on the planning committee for our company kids Easter parties for a couple of years now...and the hard work is definitely worth the effort. The kids had a blast this year...we let them decorate cookies, make foam photo frames, there was a visit from the Easter Bunny and lots of games and prizes. Tori and David volunteered their time...putting on fake tattoos...the kids loved that part. I was so impressed with the volunteers this year - some from the office and 3 high school students...what a difference help makes! And thanks again to my two high school lovebirds...love you guys for being such great helpers!

Here is a pic of our beautiful, generous, kid-friendly Easter bunny! Not much to report this week...it's been pretty boring actually. Busy work related getting ready for a big presentation...and looking ahead to Easter party craziness. The kids' easter party is next weekend and I will be running all over gathering up the necessary goodies for that!

On the home front...things are quiet and no Easter plans from the family yet either. Hope that our schedules all mesh and we get to be together for the holiday.

I went to Copic Club at the Nook this week and got alot done. I was able to get playing with my Magnolia stamps...promise that there will be pictures soon. I love getting out with friends and meeting some newbies to the Copics. I got to show the masking technique that Pauline at Stamplicity taught us...so slick and makes using multiple stamps a breeze.

Thanks for checking in...sorry that there are no new scrappy pics...but with all the craziness, I have not been completing anything to show off.

Have a good week.

Ness

Mar 8 - Mar 14

Hey,

Just an opening promise not to vent about home repairs...I promise...it's out of my system.

Some scrappy pics for you to drool over...isn't my Liam just the cutest!!!

I also love this one...the 3 of them...the Ford men!

It's after Oscar weekend and I love seeing the ladies decked out in their finest and finding out which movies made Oscar history. Now I know what movies to rent in the summer!

I woke up Monday morning with the worst cold ever...maybe not the worst but I feel dreadful. I hope that it's gone by Wednesday...big training at work and don't want to be coughing or sniffling thru the presentation.

Well...my cold was not gone by Wednesday, or Thursday or even Friday. I dragged myself thru the week looking toward the weekend like a desert traveller for an oasis! I feel soo tired but know that the weekend is pretty open and I will be able to rest.

I got alot done in the way of scrappy projects...here are some pics of my Card caddy. I found the template at Nothern Girl Stamper and love the end result.

The little medallions have card categories on them... so easy to help me get organized. I could not believe it on Wednesday when I could not find a Thank You card. Come on! I have made hundreds of cards over the years...and I have not given them away...they are hidden in my messy scrappy room! So...I vowed organization will be mine! I didn't get the caddy finished until late afternoon on Sunday...but it's done.

I have also been playing with some new Magnolia stamps and will be going to Copic club this week at the Scrapping Nook. We have been doing some research on Arizona - had a dinner with Cathy and Chris to plan some of our trip details last weekend. And...this week it's looking like it might have been in vain.

We have been taking some financial hits lately...car repairs and eye glasses, and now...our bathroom is letting us know that it's in desperate need of attention. It's one of the frustrating parts of home ownership...those maintenance and repair costs that you try to prioritize...but never works out how you hope. We spent money late last year on a new fence because it was about to fall over, new doors on the front and back of the house because there were huge drafts and new basements windows because we were boarding them up - there wasn't even glass in 2 of the windows! So...you would think that we might get a bit of a break with home repairs just until after our trip...but no. The bathroom tub / taps have been a problem for a while now...the plumbing is just so old that we can't get replacement parts. So we thought that instead of having a massive demolition and remodel, we might be able to get a tub/shower overlay. This seemed like a good idea from an environmental perspective...no tub and tiles to dispose of. We could have it done by a company relatively quickly and they would be done the work in one day! I would not be without a bathroom (since our downstairs bathroom is worst that peeing outside) and that was a big plus!

The obstacle...the quote! It was higher than I thought. And it would take most of our saved nest egg. But we need a bathroom...so the stress becomes...how to do Arizona and a bathroom in the same year. It is going to take belt-tightening to a whole new level! Don and I had just worked out the whole mess when yesterday...our toilet started leaking water all over the floor. Come on!!! Can we catch a break...just a small one???!!!

If I had not already paid for Creative Escape, I would be opting out. Don says that he is going to pass on him going this year which sucks! I really wanted him and I to have this time away. But he brings up so many good points...it would be less money, the weather in August in Arizona is not really good for outdoor activities...heat being a factor. And many of the places we wanted to visit are not even operating during the August week that we are in Arizona. Something about heat! So...it might be a girls vacation - which saves half the expenses. Enter guilt! I feel sooo guilty...but Don says that this is my Super Bowl...anyone who knows Don knows that Super Bowl is sacred! He really wants Cathy and I to have this opportunity and have fun. He knows that we really want to go and he is the most amazing husband to think this way!

I really want to have a bathroom...so the dilema continues. I could get the bathroom done in a more DIY fashion, pulling the tub out, gutting the tiles, new plumbing, for less money that the company wants for the overlay...but I would have to have demolition ongoing for weeks, maybe even months. And we are not handy so we would be relying on help...helpers who have other priorities other than my bathroom. I am blessed to have a Dad that is amazingly handy...but he also doesn't have to live with me during the chaos! And who knows what we will find when we rip the wall down...I shudder to think!

So I move thru the weekend with more questions than answers...more confusion than ever. I know we will work it all out...but right now...I am spinning from all the possibilities.

Feb 22 - Feb 28

Hey,

This week has been a loooong and expensive one! With the car repairs last week, and new glasses for me...this week has brought more high ticket expenses! Tori had an eye appt and needed new glasses...my goodness - two sets of eye glasses in under a week. And waiting for the insurance company to reimburse us is never a short wait!

But we both love our new frames...Tori's are very sophisticated and make me realize that she is becoming more of a young woman every day. I was due for a change...I had not changed frames in almost 10 years! I was happy to not be stuck in 1999 with my round owl frames. What do you think?

The snow fall this week played havoc with the rest of my week - I had to cancel some Friday appts so I got alot done in the office. And I am hoping against hope that we have seen an end to the snow this winter...I know...there has not been much...but I am ready for pastel colours, capri pants and some warmer weather!

I also got to go to the Grand Opening of the Scrapping Nook in Welland and was honoured to be asked to do a make and take. I demonstrated the new Shimmerz...if you are interested take a look at http://www.shimmerzpaints.com/. They are really a great product - very versatile and great to revive some old supplies and make them more current with a bling finish. I made this canvas almost entirely out of the shimmerzpaints and some white coasters. Every coaster is made without patterned paper...that's using shimmerz techniques. So cool!

In the days leading up to the Grand Opening I got to thinking about how Janice (the new owner) must feel...nervous, excited, happy, worried...all these emotions around fulfilling her dream of owning a scrapbook store. I watched her move through the customers on the opening day...and was so happy to see her achieve her dream. I felt very blessed to be a part of that and thank her so much for including me in making that day a great success. We had a lovely dinner after the store closed and seeing everyone celebrating Janice's special day felt great.

Janice, I wish you success as you embark on this new journey. It is much appreciated that you have continued the Nook family, giving us a place to call home and a source for our creativity. And for anyone looking for a great store for scrappy supplies...check out the Scrapping Nook at http://www.thescrappingnook.ca/. My new goal for 2010 was to “check in” here once a week…and it’s already mid-February but I am here!

This week has certainly been a week of revelations for me, and one reveal has opened the door for the next. First and foremost…Cathy won a Golden Ticket at Creative Escape 2010 and this gives her and a friend the opportunity of attending the event. And I am that friend – lucky for me! We are awarded with the opportunity of paying the fee…and attending the event and what an event! The line up of teachers has my head spinning and I am a bit overwhelmed at the idea of booking accommodation/flights…and getting to AZ by August. But it’s going to happen…I see this in my future.

When the initial excitement of getting a chance to attend CE had sunken into the foggy matter that is my brain…I was struck with a big of anxiety. The trip is going to be costly and with Don and Chris coming with us…it’s a major vacation. So getting the funds available for such an endeavor in a short period of time will be the challenge. Second…my health / weight and flying. I always get nervous before a flight…worrying about cramming my ample rear end into a teeny tiny airline seat. So…I vowed then and there that this year…from February until August…I was going to make my health my priority. And the very next day I was up at 5 am…walking on the treadmill.

I have determined that exercise is non-negotiable…I mean…I would not think of going into work without a shower…so I should view exercise the same way. I have to get up…get it done and over with. And so far…three days down and I am still alive. LOL!
I am not running marathons yet, but I am finishing the 30 minutes and getting to watch one of my TV shows on DVD. This week it’s Season 12 of Dallas…and I am loving the outfits…the 80’s humour and the fact that any woman would find JR attractive. The DVD keeps me from wanting to scream and the time flies by. Well not really flies…but it’s not intolerable.

Interestingly enough…in the past 3 days, I have been the least tired that I have been all week. Who would have thought that exercise would give you energy? But it does! I have been whipping thru the daily tasks at work and at home, I have energy at the end of the day for a little creative play. I know all the scrappers will be wanting pics…so I have added one of my Valentine’s card for Don…it’s not mushy cuz he is not a mushy card guy. I have been crazy busy getting ready for a certain LSS’ grand opening next weekend…I am doing a little make and take but no sneak peeks are allowed.

I have also been busy making a little gift for my nephew Liam – a little altered gift box with a chipboard album and some coordinating wooden letters. He is so adorable…here he is with his overly excited Auntie. Isn’t he precious? I was pleased at how the letters turned out…and will share the album once Chris and Jaimee get to see it.

Well...that's it for this week...thanks for taking a look.

Ness

July 5 - Exploring Vancouver

I woke early, eager to explore all Vancouver had to offer. My traveling companions prefer a more laid-back start to the morning, so I had to be patient. In their defense, it was 5 am Vancouver time...but it was past 8 am in Ontario and I was excited to go!!

We did get breakfast quite early at our hotel - very overpriced but it was convenient and hot! We set out to Stanley Park by 8 am. Dave agreed to drive the monster truck for me...big mistake. My MIL was not happy about it because I was responsible for it...and should be driving it. I thought we would be ok...but should have known that I live under an unlucky cloud!!!

We pulled out of the hotel parking garage, and were happily discussing our options for the day. Dave slowed for a red light...and bang! A motorcycle behind us lost control of his bike and plowed into the back of the pick up...with Dave driving! My stomach dropped and MIL was very mad. I should never have asked FIL to drive...my responsibility...you know the drill. The driver was ok...he sustained a broken light and some scrapes and our pick up was perfect and unharmed at all. But it set a tone for the morning...not a good thing to have the first day out.

We got to Stanley Park without incident and decided to take a horse drawn trolley ride thru the park. The ride was 1 hour and a very enjoyable way to see the entire park. Our horses, Newman and Aces fought amongst themselves the whole way, nipping and biting at each other. It reminded me of Don and I! Our guide Katie, was friendly and very knowledgable.

The trolley's easy pace made taking pictures a breeze and my new camera was great. We stopped at Stanley's Park's collection of totem poles for a quick photo op and the best espresso that I have tasted!

We passed by some of the devastation that Stanley Park suffered in the storm of 2006 - whole trees were uprooted during the high winds. It was sad to see the huge trees laying on the ground but there was new growth all around - evidence that life goes on in the rainforest.

The girl in the wet suit statue was really cool...and the Vancouver teens love to dress her up for special occasions...today she was au natural...but legend has it that she has quite the wardrobe! The seagull on her head was funny!

Don really wanted to see the Aquarium so we headed there next. We saw lots of tropical fish, some I had never seen before. Don and Dave marveled at the size of some fish...having only seen the shrimpy Ontario versions.

My pics of the gelly fish turned out pretty cool!!!

We really wanted to see the dolphin, excuse me, porpoise show but were disappointed when it started to mist. We thought that the show would be cancelled for sure, once the mist turned into drizzle about 10 minutes before the start time. Jan and I made our minds up that rain would not stop us from experiencing the whole travel experience. We secured a spot at the rail, hoods and umbrellas up to protect us. Little by little, the crown grew, until it was 3 deep around the viewing tank.

To my surprise, Vancouverites are completely unaffected by rain...most don't even try to stay dry! And their version of rain differs greatly from my version of rain. Water falling from the sky...to me that's rain. In Vancouver, they distinguish it...mist, drizzle, sprinkling and rain (by then I have hunkered in somewhere warm and dry)! Their version of rain is a monsoon to me!

Due to the rain & porpoisessalt water tank, I did not get pics of the show. Too bad, cuz these little guys can fly thru the air - fast and furious into the sky! The West Coast dolphins are much darker than our grey versions at home...and kinda resemble orcas. This is a protection for them as killer whales feed on them!

The Vancouver Aquarium is also much different than our Marineland back home. All the animals at the Vancouver Aquarium have been rescued or are rehabilitating - many have been injured by nets or other larger fish and can't survive in the wild. There were many animals with missing fins/flippers as proof of their hardships.

After a quick visit to the Aquarium gift shop, we headed out to the Scrapbook Warehouse, Vancouver's #1 store for scrappy supplies. (Like I would not hit one LSS). I found some great Vancouver embellies and a couple acrylic travel stamp sets. I was in happytown!!!

We headed back to our hotel for supper. This time, the restaurant exceeded my expectations. I had the liver, bacon and onions and it was melt in your mouth good! Don had bacon wrapped meatloaf and mmmm'd at every bite. What a way to end the day...bumbleberry pie for Don and I indulged in chocolate mouse cake with p. butter cup ice cream. Delicious!

We hit our beds early again because we expected a busy day on Sunday, boarding the ship. Don and I quickly re-organized the suitcases and carry-ons and fell asleep.

If we had only known what Sunday would bring...we might have stayed in bed!!!

Anticipation...

Anticipation – We booked our cruise to Alaska over 6 months ago in January and waited half a year for the day that we would set out on our journey. We spent countless hours searching on the Internet for the right cruise, booking excursions, researching port cities and looking for hotels and attractions in Vancouver. We made lists, crossed things off those lists and made more lists again. The excitement simmered until May when it soared off into a feverish pitch until yesterday. July 4, 2008 – the day were on VACATION!

Our trip started off well…on time to the airport, cleared customs (well Dave practically had to strip!!) and boarded the plane.

The flight was long – poor Don’s back gave out after 2 hours…and he had to go 8 hours without a cigarette! I never saw a man collect luggage so fast…could it be that he could see outside just beyond the baggage claim doors and was jones-ing for a fix?? We had so much luggage that we needed to upgrade our car from a teensy Taurus to a Sport Trax (pick up with king cab), which I hate. Well it’s pretty enough (fire engine red with a box thing on the back)…but I am intimidated by the size. I plan to get Dave to drive it from now on!!!

Vancouver is nothing like I imagined looking at maps for 6 months! There is a lot of construction getting ready for the Olympics and it is a busy city! On our first glimpse along Granville Street, it was beautiful. The street is lined with huge evergreen hedges…nothing like the hedges in Ontario. These hedges put privacy fencing to shame…some of them are 2 storey high. You can imagine how old this neighbourhood is to have trees stretching into the sky. As we crossed the bridge into the downtown area, you could see the bay and mountains partially covered in fog. It was gorgeous, how mountains meet the sea. I can’t wait to see it when the fog lifts. Hopefully on Saturday.

Vancouver’s downtown is made up of MANY one-way streets…it is worse that Oshawa…and that’s saying something. We pulled into our hotel on the second time around the block – I missed it on the first try and had to double back!!! Oh, yeah…for those who know and love me…the fur was flying! Since our room was not ready and it was suppertime for us (3pm Vancouver time = 7 pm St. Kitts time), we drove around the downtown core looking for some grub for the “menfolk”. Most downtown restaurants that we found in our online searches were not open for dinner until after 4 – but low and behold…a Denny’s. Good enough…good food, reasonable price, and great service.

Downtown Vancouver is a melting pot of business meets buskers, unemployed mingle happily with the busy working class. Everywhere you looked, there was activity and some more strange than others!!! It’s eclectic meets Wall Street but after dark, it’s not the best neighbourhood to be in. Not a problem for us…since we were all asleep before it was dark here! After 18 hours, the traveling, the excitement turned into exhaustion and we are looking forward to Saturday.

We hope to take in the sights in Stanley Park, cross the Capilano Suspension bridge and find a scrapbook store. Come on…did you think I wouldn’t try to get my fix? All in all…a great start to the trip. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

MIA for 6 months...

Ok...for anyone still checking in to see if I post...I sincerely apologize. I am a bad bad blogger.

However, since I am venturing out west and up north to Alaska tomorrow...I am going to try to journal as I go. My hotel and cruise ship have internet cafes and I will do my very best to pop in here and keep the blogging going.

The past six months have been tough for Don and I...busy with work, kids and usual stuff...combined with some very "unique" family stressors. So we are in grave need of a vacation together to re-connect.

More about the trip in later posts. For now I will say that we are putting Jan-June behind us and hoping that the last half of this year is better for us. With a positive attitude...and fingers crossed, I enter July!!!

January 2008

Happy New Year...and my apologies that I have not blogged sooner. I will aim for better results this year...no promises mind you...but I will try.

I have been busy keeping my 2008 goals - here they are:

1) Use my new treadmill 4-6 times per week
2) Take my lunch to work...and eat it (I sometimes skip lunch and pig out at supper)
3) Read 25 books this year - magazines don't count
4) Get my house organized and de-cluttered
5) Scrapbook once a week - complete 30 layouts/projects in 2008 and load them into the gallery 6) Have date night once a month with DH to re-connect.

So far, I have been very good...I have used my new treadmill 4-6 times per week...5 times per week on average. I have increased the time I exercise and would love to participate in a Walk for Cancer this year.

I have also taken my lunch to work, and eaten every bite. This new exercise regime makes me soo hungry and I am enjoying my snacks throughout the day. A big change from no breakfast, skipped lunch and monster supper with snacks all night. I have made 7:30 pm my cut off and brush my teeth at that time to stop me from snacking.

I have also read my first book - The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett...and highly recommend it. I found the characters believable and enjoyed learning about architecture, more particularly building cathedrals and life in the Middle Ages. Quite different from today...yet the issues are remarkably similar.

And I have finished 3 projects - one birthday calendar, one mini book to record all the books I read this year and another mini book to record pics of my layouts completed this year.

Don and I had our first date night on Jan 11 - it was his choice..so it was date night "man-style". Yes, pizza, beer and wings. We stayed in and enjoyed our feast and it was great to have quiet time to catch up on our week!

I finished up the week at a crop at the Four Points Suites with Scrappin' The Night Away. Michelle Miller was a very good hostess and her store held a number of unique finds. Just what a girl who has everything possible could want. Cathy and Heather were also there and I truly enjoyed their company. Not bad for starters to 2008!
Weary traveller has returned...

What a month September has been...and I know that I have been remiss in posting to this blog...but viewers...please cut me some slack :)

It all started with the Labour Day long weekend...getting the kids ready for school was a challenge...Alex at a new school for the 5th time in 5 years and Tori starting Grade 8...sooo many supplies and clothes to buy. So I started the week off broke but looking forward to the Stamplicity retreat on Sept 7-9.

Pauline and her crew outdid themselves! The projects were amazing and I had a blast with my friends. I was frugal this year...seeing as how I have a room full of supplies that I won't use in my lifetime...but I have alot of new projects planned with the ideas / projects from the retreat. I had fun with Heather, Debbie, Cathy, Nancy, Marlene and Caroline - that was my favourite part...being with my friends for the weekend. And I went home happy...but very very tired.

I had 2 short days to recover...then we launched into the CamAm Shop and Hop...a 2 week-long event where I shopped in 14 different scrapbook/stamp stores in both Canada and in the US. I managed to visit 6 of the Canadian stores before I was packing up for a work trip.

I attended my company's strategic conference from Sept 16-18th and was priviledged to attend the most amazing seminar...Keeper of the Flame, with Mike Lipkin. If anyone has the opportunity to read this book, I highly recommend it. I left the conference feeling exuberated and ready to tackle any task that life would throw at me! I was full of new ideas to overcome problems both at home and at work. I felt like a million bucks...and left the conference to continue on the second leg of my trip...business meeting in T.O.

This leg of my journey was not without its problems...the hotel that I had a confirmation for...had me booked in for the following week and were completely booked when I arrived. They were kind enough to point me in the direction of another hotel - gee thanks guys! This hotel had only one room left...some conference in town, no doubt - and the room did not have air conditioning. Since the weather has been slightly chilly...I figured it was only for the night...so grin and bear it. I regretted my decision at about 11:30 pm when the temperature did a spike from 13 degrees to about 29 degrees in one hour. I was drenched in sweat, unable to sleep thru the numerous police sirens down the block and wishing I was home. Six am could not come quick enough...and I made full use of the executive lounge to have a free breakfast before my meeting.

I suffered thru the mornining meeting (so tired and cranky in the heat) and then it was off to our office in Collingwood for 2 days. I enjoy my time in the northern office, the people are so much fun and very down to earth. It makes my job easier to deal with very co-operative people...and it doesn't hurt that I bust a gut laughing when I am there!

Thursday afternoon, I was finally on my way home. Home to my darling husband, who had been my rock thru the entire trip...taking calls of me whining that I wanted to be home, etc. Home to my kids...who I missed like crazy...and home to my fur babies, who would greet me at the door with love and affection...and some pain if they managed to knock me down!

I was sooo happy to be home...for one day...Friday - then back to the US to finish off the CanAm Shop Hop with my friend Cathy. We had a great time...traveling thru north New York state, thru farm and forest, getting lost, but then eventually finding our way. We found some great stores...Buffalo Stamps, Utopia and Simply Scrapbooks to name the best 3! And got to meet some really nice ladies along the way. We didn't get home until after 10 pm...we started the trip at 8 am...so it was a brutally long day. I found so many new products...things that I had not seen in Canada...so it was definitely worth the drive.

Sunday....a day of rest for some...but not me! I finished the CamAm Hop and turned in my passport...14 stores in 14 days...some thought it could not be done...but Cathy and I proved them wrong! We have empty wallets, tired feet...and a new appreciation of what it takes to run a scrapbook store! Kudos to the stores in Niagara...still the best customer service in the land...and there is no place like home!

I have tons of pics of me in front of the stores...requirement for a challenge on the website...and I have inspiration enough to last a year or more! Enough posting on this blog...off to play with my stuff!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Back-to-school! I can not wait for everyone to be back to our regular routine. I know that my kids love to be off school and have the summer to hang with their friends. But why does my house have to be the "hang-out" spot. Probably because we are not home...we are at work. Nothing like having a house with no parents...but this is my house.

And I know, that my Mum and brother reading this will say that this is fitting justice for the summer havoc that I caused back in the day...but I could not have been this bad! Ok...I was this bad! I never fully realized why my Mum came home from work and flipped out when the living room was messy, or there were kids piling out the back door when she walked in the front door. Hey Mum...I get it now. Can you release me from the curse/hex now?

In all seriousness...we are busy getting ready for back-to-school. Got the clothes this past weekend and plan on a shopping trip for supplies this weekend. Staples has these great lists which are grade-appropriate and it makes things alot easier than letting my kids decide what to buy. Can you imagine my bill then? No Alex...there is no laptop on this list...sorry. Miss Victoria, I don't see a binder with speakers on this list...put that $50 item back on the shelf. Guess I get to have my little bit of justice after all!

I always see back-to-school time as a time for a fresh start...even though fall is not the fresh start season. The new supplies and clothes...with the fresh faced kids heading back to learn more and have new adventures. Maybe it's the smell of newly sharpened pencils or the clean house at the end of the day...but I just love Back-to-School!

Our Beluga experience

Just had to post a photo of the kids having their Beluga experience...

Not much happened this weekend...Don and I are still reliving the memories from last weekend!

Can't wait to go back again!

Everyone loves...Marineland!

My company had their corporate picnic at Marineland on August 18 and Don and I took Tori and our nephew Brandon along for the fun. It was a great day...but very long and lots of walking/running after our boy.

We started out early...we were in the parking lot waiting for the park to open! Brandon was so excited, pointing to rides that he wanted to try. He had never been to Marineland and Don and I had a few surprises in store for him. The day was extra-special for me because my friend Cathy was there with her hubby, Chris - Chris works with me at Walker.

When the gates finally opened...we hit the deer park first. Brandon was not overly impressed with the sleeping deer...the deer were less impressed with him...little kids are noisy to tired deer! We knew that once the feeding hut opened that the deer would become more interested - deer like to be fed. We handed Brandon his ice cream cone filled with feed and waited...camera ready...and the deers did not disappoint...within seconds, he was surrounded by the deer, nibbling at his deer feed cone. Brandon didn't want to give the food to one deer...so he held his cone high...like a little male version of the Statue of Liberty...trying to get away. The deer were taller than him and just leaned in for more food. Finally, Don gave in and rescued Brandon...plucking him up and out of the way. But not before we had a good laugh...

We visited the Killer and Beluga whale tanks...and these creatures are amazing to see close up. Don, Brandon and Tori got to encounter the Beluga experience...for a fee, you can feed and touch the belugas...and it was definitely worth the wait (40 minutes in line...). We have great pics of that adventure and Marineland was kind enough to take a few...again for a fee!

Lunch with my co-workers was great...food was good and it was nice to see everyone with their families. It was a much needed break from chasing Brandon from place to place and we all enjoyed the burgers and dogs!

We just had to see the dolphin and seal show...so it was onto King Waldorf's Castle for the show. We got there 45 minutes early...but the place was still packed! I could not believe that this small amusement park could hold sooo many people! The show was cute...and the dolphins were amazing-worth waiting for.

We were running out of steam at this point, but Brandon had yet to see the Killer Whale Splash show so we made our way back up to Friendship Cove. The kiddie ride area was a sea of parents and crying kids...the wait in line was over an hour in most cases. We convinced Brandon to forget the rides this time...and herded our group to the Killer Whale show. We could not get near the place...it was 4-5 deep with adults along the edge of the pool. You could not see the kids for the adults in the place. We waited for the show, standing in the heat...Brandon asking me how much longer every 30 seconds. Then, when we had one minute to go...he said, "Uncle Don, I need to go to the bathroom!" Well that called it a day pretty quick...back to find a bathroom, updated our tickets for seasons passes...and got out of dodge!

All in all, we enjoyed the day very much. We plan to take Brandon back again in a couple of weeks so he can try a few of the rides that he missed. And it's great exercise for us...chasing after him as he calls over his shoulder, Come-on, Auntie Nessa...hurry up! But I would not change that for the world! I love watching his face light up when he sees something amazing! I knew looking at my calendar on April 25, that I would be wiped out by the end of the weekend but I was not really expecting to be exhausted!

Thursday evening and early Friday morning, I crammed for my final exam toward my Credit Designation. I had done well in all my earlier assignments, so I was not too nervous. But I wanted the whole thing to be over. It was...in 24 minutes, I wrote my exam, submitted it to the instructor, shook his hand and left the college - forever! Yipee!

I decided that I deserved some retail therapy and purchased the required uniform for a PJ party - cute PJ's! Then I dashed home for a quick nap so I could stay up all night!

I attended the Scrapping Nook's Annual PJ party crop on Friday night and it was fantastic!
I got so much accomplished - I made over 40 cards and decorated my letter V for the store. Just cropping with my friends was a celebration for me - love being with Heather and Debbie anytime! Jan, Karen, Tara, Patti, Elia and Janice made it more fun...and of course, Matt - our special guy for the night.

I actually made it to 6 am when my body overpowered my brain and sent me home. After a power-shop for groceries...I finally got to bed at 9 am! I was only allowed a quick nap - then off to my nephew, Brandon's 6th birthday party. By 2 pm - I was done...and slept until Sunday morning!

They say that you can't catch up on sleep...I tried all day on Sunday to catch up on Friday's all night escapade. I failed miserably and was still groggy on Monday, proving to myself that I am getting old and can't party like I used to!

It's Wednesday and I am feeling human again. Just about time for another weekend of scrappin'! ;)

The terrible blogger...

that would be me! I decided to start a blog back in March...then haven't updated it since.

Ok - turning over a new leaf...now that there are actually leaves on the trees. I was kinda forced to start my blog again when I was Tagged by Lori...here is the game.

Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their seven things, as well as these rules. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog! OK, here goes:

1) I hate to wear socks...period. I suffer all through fall and winter because socks are expected...but as the new buds of spring appear on the trees...the socks are relegated back to the drawer where they belong.

2) I am a TIVO addict...I HAVE to save my favourite shows and LOVE that I can skip the commercials. I often save so many programs that it takes me a whole weekend to get through a week's worth of shows!

3) Part b of #2 - when engrossed in my favourite shows...I often do not see or hear anything around me and must be poked or shouted at to get my attention.

4) I twirl my hair when I am thinking or nervous - and often mess up a perfectly good hair day with my crazy twirling!

5) I travel with my pink blankie when away from home...it is a soft polar fleece blanket. Not so much for security but often for warmth and it often doubles as a great second/third pillow.

6) I have to be the "driver"...when riding in a car as a passenger, I often get car sick.

7) I like to play practical jokes on my family...most often on my DH who sleeps with one eye open!

That's it for my 7 - and since I am so late in responding to Lori's game...I won't tag anyone. But feel free to play if you wish!

Thanks for stopping by...more soon!

Welcome to my blog...

After months of saying I would start a blog...I have finally done it!

Welcome to my world...a peek inside my world, according to me! It may not always be exciting but it will always be me!

What's new you ask? It's March Break and Don and I are off this week. Well, I go back to work on Thursday...too many meetings to be off the whole week! But it's a great time to clean out the closets and get the house sparkling and new for spring. It's only Monday but already the house smells like orange Pledge!

I have planned a few scrapbooking projects to finish and upload to the Scrapping Nook gallery - I have not really finished my own projects lately. Too busy finishing kits from last year's trip to Buffalo CK Convention. But I am focused on completing my to-do list this week. I spent alot of time browsing the Nook's gallery today and have lots of inspiration and ideas.

I finally got a hair appointment - time for a change. Then more errands and more cleaning - not too exciting. We are planning a short day trip to Kitchener on Wednesday if the weather is nice. I love road trips.
